Magic in the Nursery: illustration for children's books by Walter Crane and Randolph Caldecott

08 September 2018 - 25 November 2018 Sewerby Hall The colourful and fanciful images of the late Victorians Walter Crane and Randolph Caldecott are said to be the 'founding fathers' of modern children's picture books. This touring exhibition celebrates this importance, and includes Kate Greenaway.

Sensing the Past

11 September 2018 - 10 November 2018 Goole Museum This exhibition by Vivica, a group of 3rd Age artists, will include new works in painting, ceramics, photography, textiles and printmaking exploring the prompts (places, sound, touch, taste and smell) that memory calls upon to recall past images.

Birds, Blooms and Butterflies: Elizabeth Lambert's Art

15 September 2018 - 03 November 2018 Treasure House There was a rise in popularity of botanical and natural history drawing in the early 19th century. In Beverley Elizabeth Lambert (1791-1830) was captivated by this hobby, and produced hundreds of finely detailed drawings and watercolours.

Peripheral Vision: Straw People by Julian Swift

15 September 2018 - 03 November 2018 Beverley Art Gallery Julian's straw-people fantasy came to life in the 1990s when he saw 2 boiler-suited scarecrows appearing to conduct a conversation in a field in Norfolk, courtesy of the wind catching their arms. His imaginative work captures a whole straw society.

Peter Barker: Working Hands

10 November 2018 - 01 February 2019 Treasure House This series of photographic portraits of long-standing trades and crafts around the East Riding sit alongside images of newer skills. The contemplative portraits record the tools, skills and concentration in today's manual production.

Legacy: A Painterly Response to WW1 by Paul Clifford

10 November 2018 - 01 February 2019 Beverley Art Gallery 100 years ago, as WW1 drew to a close, Paul Clifford's father returned to England from Egypt where he had served in the East Riding Yeomanry. The exhibition started with photos from the Desert Expeditionary Force but includes other found images.

Fifty Years of Goole Museum

20 November 2018 - 26 January 2019 Goole Museum Goole Library and Museum opened its doors for the first time on 20 November 1968. Exactly 50 years later to the day this exhibition opens. It explores this much loved local hub, the facts, the people and their stories.
